Vyntaris
Privacy Policy
Effective October 22, 2026
Vyntaris is a desktop operating system that runs on your own computer. It has no accounts, no telemetry and no analytics. Vyntaris's developers don't receive, collect or store your data. This policy explains what the system connects to, and how the optional Google Drive backup uses your Google account.
What Vyntaris doesn't do
- It doesn't send usage statistics, crash reports or identifiers anywhere on its own.
- It doesn't show ads and doesn't sell, rent or share data with anyone.
- It has no Vyntaris account and no Vyntaris server that holds your files or settings.
What the system connects to
Some features need the internet. Each connects only to the service named here, directly from your computer:
- Updates: Arch Linux's package mirrors and Vyntaris's package repository
(
pkg.vyntarisos.com, hosted by Cloudflare), to check for and download updates. Firmware updates come from the Linux Vendor Firmware Service throughfwupd. - Weather: Open-Meteo (
open-meteo.com), sent the coordinates of the city you picked (or of your time zone's city), and what you type when you search for a city, to show the forecast. It can be turned off in Settings. - Currency conversion: ExchangeRate-API (
open.er-api.com), for exchange rates when you convert money in the launcher. - Free VPN: if you connect to one of its places, Riseup (
riseup.net), which issues an anonymous certificate. No account or personal data is involved. - Problem reports: only when you choose to make one in Dr. Help. It opens GitHub's new-issue page in your browser, filled in with what you wrote and what the system found, with names, the computer's name, network names and addresses taken out first. Nothing is sent until you submit it there yourself.
- Phone link: when you turn it on, it talks to your phone on your local network only.
These services handle requests under their own privacy policies.
Google Drive backup
Backing up to Google Drive is optional and off until you connect your Google account in Settings → Backups.
What it accesses
Vyntaris asks Google for the drive.file permission only. With it, Vyntaris can see and manage
only the files and folders it creates itself, in a folder named Vyntaris backup in your Drive.
It can't see, read or change any other file in your Google Drive, and it doesn't access your Gmail, contacts,
calendar, photos or profile.
How it's used
- To copy the folders you pick to Vyntaris backup, on the schedule you pick.
- To keep the previous version of a file you changed or deleted, in that folder's Older.
- To show you the backup, so you can copy files back.
- To show how much space your Drive has used.
Where your data goes
Your files go directly from your computer to your own Google Drive. They never pass through, and are never
stored on, any server run by Vyntaris. The permission Google grants (its access token) is stored only on your
computer, in ~/.config/rclone/rclone.conf. Vyntaris's developers never receive it.
Sharing
Data obtained from Google is never shared with, transferred to or sold to anyone. It isn't used for advertising, isn't used to train AI or machine-learning models, and no person reads it.
Removing access and data
- Sign out in Settings → Backups deletes the stored permission from your computer and stops backups.
- You can also revoke Vyntaris's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- The backed-up files stay in your Drive until you delete the Vyntaris backup folder yourself in Google Drive.
Vyntaris's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
